Triple Falls Hike Near Asheville, NC

Back in October my mom and I made a trip down to Asheville, NC, to do some hiking. We had never been to Asheville before, but we wanted to go somewhere where we could be outside, do some hiking, and enjoy the fall colors!

We set out first thing the morning after arriving for our hike. The weather was nice, although very humid!

We parked and began our hike. The lighting was very harsh, so unfortunately it was hard to get pictures! I did the best I could but it was a bit of a struggle messing with my camera settings to get the exposure just right. And it was so humid I couldn't even keep the lens cap on my camera because the lens kept fogging up!

Despite the weather we enjoyed our hike. We didn't make it up to Hooker Falls, but we did visit Triple Falls and High Falls. We were getting hungry and didn't bring any snacks with us (they were in the car.) so we just decided to skip Hooker Falls.

The trail was pretty steep. My phone showed we hiked the equivalent of 30 floors!

I would definitely visit again, although I would plan our hike a little better! The scenery was beautiful and I would like to make it up to Hooker Falls!

Recent Purchases 8

Women's Botanical Flowers Short Sleeve Graphic T-Shirt: I'm not usually one for graphic tees, but I thought this one was pretty cute! I went up two sizes as other commenters had recommended and I'm glad I did. It really does run very small! Otherwise it's a nice shirt at a great price!

ASICS GEL-Excite 7 in Black/White: I really needed some new running shoes and have always had good luck with Asics. I ordered from Zappos and they came quickly and fit great.

I had purchased a different style and ended up returning them because they hurt my feet. Zappos has a 30 day runlimited guarantee so if you try them out and don't like them you can return them! (Although not every running shoe is included, so just watch for that if you purchase through them!)

Overall I really like these shoes. They're very lightweight and I've had them for probably almost 6 months now and they still look like new even though I wear them on average maybe 3-4 times a week everywhere from treadmill, to trails, to paved paths. My family all own Asics and we are all pleased with them!

SUNGAIT Vintage Round Sunglasses for Women (Polarized Grey Lens/Black Frame(matte finish)): I don't like spending a lot of money for sunglasses and I also have a hard time finding a style that I like. I came across these on Amazon and decided to give them a try. They're extremely lightweight and the polarization is nice. These even come with a cleaning cloth, a pouch to keep them in, and a tiny tool to tighten the screws should them come lose. They're great sunglasses for the price.

Jersey Paper-bag Pants: These pants may not look as great as pictured, but they look much better on! I really like that they're kind of vintage inspired. They're not too high-waisted, but sit right at your natural waist. The material, being jersey, is soft and stretchy, but it's thicker than I expected which is great! I haven't gotten a chance to wear them yet but am looking forward to wearing them!

Round-neck T-shirt in Mauve: The fit of these t-shirts is all over the place. I've purchased several over the last few years and I have them in 3 different sizes! This one, I had to size down in. The problem I have with them is they tend to be very boxy, so I would recommend sizing down. I guess you could say they work better as a more fitted tee instead more loose fitting. Anyways, I really liked the color of this tee!

Luxe Printed Swing Tank in Black & White Dots: I have quite a few of these tanks from Old Navy and decided to add the black and white dots to my closet. I like that these tanks are on the longer side and loose fitting. I like to wear them with either leggings or skinny jeans and a fitted cardigan.

Butter French Terry Lounge Jogger Pant: I had some joggers I purchased from Target several years ago that I really love, but they are so worn out and have a couple of holes in them so it was high time for some new ones. I have had a hard time finding anything similar to what I had, until I came across these! They are very soft and comfortable. They are pretty lightweight which I like, although if you are looking for something to keep you really warm these probably won't do the trick. These seem to run big as I was able to size down in them.

Have you purchased anything lately?

Fort Monroe

We go out to Fort Monroe often to go for walks along the beach, but for some reason we hadn't visited the inner part of the fort before. My brother was down visiting and while the two of us were out there he asked if we had been inside the walls yet. We spent a bit of time walking around and checking the place out. There is a visitor center, but it was closed while we were there.

There is over 400 years worth of history at Fort Monroe! It was decommissioned as an active Army installation in 2011. (You can read more about Fort Monroe and it's history here!

It's pretty weird to walk around and imagine all the soldiers being stationed here during past wars and what it must've been like. Especially when you see signs for fallout shelters! Surprisingly, people still live in some of the old officer's houses.
It certainly feels like you are stepping back in time when you visit Fort Monroe!
Have you ever visited an old military fort?
