Friday Favorites

Hello and welcome to my Friday Favorites! Today I am linking up with Andrea!

1. It's been a little while since I've done a Friday Favorites, so I'll have to backtrack a little bit!

Last month my mom and I drove up to Virginia to help my sister move into a new apartment. While passing through Richmond we stopped by our favorite doughnut shop and picked up some doughnuts to surprise my sister with! She was very surprised and they were very delicious!
2. Thanksgiving was nice but a little odd since my dad and sister weren't able to come. Luckily my brother was able to come down. It was his first time visiting us since we moved to South Carolina, so it was nice to have him here!

So even though only half the family was here it was still nice. The food was all really delicious!
3. The Saturday after Thanksgiving we decided to drive down to Helen, Georgia, to check out a Christmas market that we had read about. Online it looked like this cute German town that was supposed to have different vendor booths selling things at this Christmas market. We were kind of on the fence about going since it was almost a 2 hour (one way) drive, but we thought it might be fun for something to do.

Let me tell you, it was a disaster. There were SO. MANY. PEOPLE! It took us close to an hour just to get through town. The town is very small and there is only one road getting through town, so you just are stuck sitting in traffic. There was no parking anywhere. They had very few lots and they were all full. We were just about to leave and just randomly came across a lot where someone was pulling out.

So we park and head for town and it's pretty much just solid people. There was a total of maybe 5 vendor booths, not anywhere close to what we were expecting. I mean, I know it's a small town so we weren't expecting a ton, but we did expect more than 5!

We walked through town, visited several shops, ate a mediocre lunch at a restaurant, and left. I mean, like I said, we weren't expecting any grand thing, but it was just not at all what we were expecting. The town itself is nice and was nicely decorated for Christmas, but just the huge amount of people and traffic couldn't make up for anything else.

So in our opinion, it wasn't worth the trip. We all decided we wouldn't go back.

Have you ever gone out of your way to do something that looked fun or touristy and been disappointed?
4. The day after the Helen, GA, debacle, we took my brother to downtown Greenville to show him around. We weren't planning on eating out, but we walked by a burger place (Grill Marks) that looked and smelled really good so we decided to stop for a late lunch/early dinner. I didn't get a picture of my food but it was so good! We all really enjoyed the meal and are looking forward to bringing the rest of the family when they're in town!

We did get to see the Christmas tree in downtown Greenville which was near the restaurant.
5. In case you missed it, on Monday I shared my November Photo A Day pictures and on Wednesday I shared our hike in the DuPont State Recreational Forest!
Hope you have a great weekend!

  1. We spent Thanksgiving in Helen a few years ago and stayed at an Air B-N- B. We were able to walk to most places. I agree, it is a cute town, but a lot of people for sure. Greenville is so nice though too and at least some memories were made. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. I bet visiting over Thanksgiving was a lot better! And also staying there would have solved the parking issue for sure! Yes, I am glad we were able to still have a nice moment that weekend!

  3. Those donuts look amazing! Maybe it's a southern thing (as I am always drooling over photos Lindsay shares of her donuts too) but we don't have any great donut shops up here that I know of. I am so bummed to hear that your trip was a bust; I hate when that happens!

  4. Gotta love a Christmas “debacle"--and that certainly sounds like one! Sorry the Christmas market was such a bummer. Those donuts look incredible, though!

  6. It's a bummer about the German town! Honestly, I felt a little bit the same about Leavenworth, WA anytime from Halloween onwards. We loved it during the summer, but the crowds ruined it for the holidays! I'm glad you were able to have a great next day with your brother though!

  7. They were amazing! Despite how they look they aren't super sweet either Good donut shops are really hard to find. My sister happened to come across this one on one of those "Best Donuts in America" type lists. It really was disappointing when our day trip was a bust! On the positive side it was our first time visiting Georgia, so at least I got to cross anther state off my list of states I've visited!
