Tacoma Museum of Glass

We had planned on spending our first day in Washington by visiting either Mount Rainier or Hurricane Ridge, but unfortunately both of those places were fogged in! We were pretty disappointed about that because those are two of the few places left in Washington I haven't visited yet!

We didn't really have a plan C, so we hurried to find something to do and my mom suggested the museum of glass in Tacoma. None of us had ever been before, so we decided to check it out!

The museum had a live glass making demonstration which was neat to watch. I'm not sure what they were making, but it was  pretty interesting to see how it's done!

During the next part of the museum, there was a lot of different exhibits where you could vote on your favorite piece. Different artists from around the world (although almost all of them were from the Northwest.) enter their pieces for a chance to win a residency at the museum.

This was the piece my brother, sister, and I voted on. I liked the different colors, shapes, and textures.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to be, but I had to share because it's just so dang freaky!

  1. I went to school in Tacoma, so I've been there multiple times! I don't know if they still do this, but my favorite part of the museum back then was this exhibit where an artist created children's drawings in glass! But they were done exact, so you know if a kid draws a dog...it usually doesn't really look like an actual dog. I just thought it was so cool and different!

  2. They do still have that! Although they had it back in the hallway by the bathrooms, which I thought was an odd place for it! So unless you need to use the bathroom, you aren't going to see that exhibit. That would be pretty cool though as a kid to see your art done like that!
